Start the Kimono-tion

Back when this song came out I use to always picture Mrs Roper in one of her crazy kimonos dancing to this video. Its one of my "Happy Place"songs that I do my own little crazy dance to - gets me up and going - keeps the spirits up!

The Wiseguys: Start the commotion

I had been thinking about this song as the FAB editorial gang over at Dallas Morning News began to "start the commotion" on Friday with the most favorable media coverage regarding our grand opening. It continued on Saturday also as offers to do joint venture fashion events this spring began rolling in and a gal from Modern Luxury came in to interview me for an upcoming story in their magazine.

When I got home that night and was telling my husband the events of the day, I was dancing around like a freak with a huge grin on my face thanking God for his blessings on my business - especially when I'm tying to expand it during one of the worst economic times of my generation! Those who know me well have seen me do my little 'happy happy - joy joy" dance and can probably picture the scene right now as they read this *grin*

I woke up today still amazed at the favor of God on my life and felt like wearing my 'Mrs Roper' Kimono (one of many I collect) as a reminder of His blessings & to keep that joyous feelin goin.

what I wore:
  • champagne satin & rhinestone stilettos
  • gap modern boot cut jeans
  • vintage silk camisole
  • vintage floral short kimono robe
  • vintage black leather belt w/golden rope buckle
  • vintage 'koi' pendant necklace
  • vintage gold hammered cuff bracelet with green stones
  • vintage asian necklace with faux jade gems

Tricksta Sista

I was really excited about the interview Friday with Dallas Morning News. I, of course, had to wear head to toe vintage but also wanted to wear something that reflected ME. Now, you'll have to forgive me for posting this today (Saturday at freakin 3am) but I was in the middle of finishing up the signage for the grand openin before I noticed I hadnt posted today -rather yesterday... You have to see this sign though. I etched a floor length miror with my logo....move over Martha!) Its super cool. I gotta distress it some more but not tonight...

Anyways: Here's the breakdown -

The shoe booties are one of my favorite finds. Snagged these Yves Saint Laurent 70s safari collection ankle boots at a Goodwill for a price SO cheap, I flet like I was committing larceny as I walked out of the place.

The "dress" is one of my silk maxi skirts that I'm wearing as a strapless dress. It is VERY VERY full so to trick it up, I pinned back a section from both sides to form sort of a tuxedo tail in back and column dress in the front. This shot makes me look like I have a freakin fupa - which I soooo do NOT have - trust me! I was just too damn lazy to have Scott re-take it. As I was saying....The wide stripes reflect my bold - cut & dry "i'll tell it to ya straight" Northeast attitude and the little tux tails trick hints to my creative sensibility.

The tiny bolero is a nod to the softer side of me. Notice its a CROPPED bolero - hence there is just a small soft side of me. Just enough to balance out the rest of me.

Alright - I'm about to FALL OUT TIRED so I gotta go.....Til next time!

Dressed to Kill

I'm going through my inbox this morning and got inspired after I reading my Daily Candy email for the day. Dallas Cinemania Film Society is presenting Invasion of the Bee Girls (aka - Graveyard Tramps) at The Angelika over at Mockingbird station. As a special treat - DJ wild in the streets will be spinnin tuneage beforehand (click to see the trailer). Classic cult film AND a chick spinnin bad ass mixes too? Uh....I am so there!

Anyways - after chaneling that saucy seventies mood, I pulled out my favorite jersey evening dress: Open back, rhinestone straps, neckline down to here & slit up to there - ooh - I'm dressed to kill! Had to tone it down for day so I threw on the linen shirt, added layers of silver and topped it off with signture 70s oversized sunglasses.

What I wore:
Payless black patent slingback wedges
Vintage 70s Jersey open back dress
Club Monaco linen 3/4 sleeve blouse
Vintage filigree XL chain & pendant
NY&CO rhinestone solitary necklace
Vintage filigree oversized cuff

Kiss Me - I'm Irish..

Believe it or not, I REALLY am part Black Irish! Thats right - cuz back in the day, those damn Irish plantation owners couldnt keep their hands off of my hot little carribean ancestors. It's only like 1/8 (on my dads side - Grandma Helen's peeps) but still, Irish none the less.

So on this fine St. Patricks day I though Id give a little tribute & toast to that horny 'ol paddy (whoever he is) and the sweet sweet woman who -albeit involuntarily- gave me the little bit 0' Irish that's in my blood. Sláinte!

what I wore:

  • vintage UK boy scouts shirt
  • Felina sheer lace cami
  • Skirt made from Grandma's Dress
  • Bronze metallic stiletto heels

  • vintage 70s black rhinestone embelished high heel sandals

  • vintage 80s Esprit black and white jazz print full mini skirt

  • vintage 80s fuschia mohawk clad punk zebra print t shirt

      Wonder Woman

My satelite dish has been acting fickle lately due to the weather. So, the other day I scheduled to have Dish send someone come fix it between 8 and 12 today. As usual - I was up really late last night, slept like CRAP so OF COURSE Murphy's Law kicks in on me.

Bright & early I hear this: "Ding-Dong". Yep... Mister technician shows up...ON TIME. Two ringing doorbells - three frantically barking dogs & one seriously grouchy girl....ME! *grrr*

I COMPLETELY forgot not only that the technician was coming today, but also what day today was. See, I do trailer checks most Fridays (side gig doing contract work for the studios). Today I had one for an 11am showing at a theater 30 minuets from the house. Thing is, I didn't even remember about the check till oh..... TEN O'CLOCK!!

So I had to channel in my superpowers and pull a Linda Carter/Wonder Woman spin around. I hadjust 30 minuets to find something to wear, iron it, take a shower, get ready, printout my authorization letter/paperwork and rush the Dish guy to finish up so I could be on the road by 10:30.

This sweater is the first thing I thought of that would inspire me to get my ass in gear. Now granted, this sweater looks NOTHING like the Wonder Woman outfit but the pattern DOES makes this big "W" on the front (kinda like the superman 'S') I know its a stretch and I'm mixing superheroes but hey...it works for me. and anyways - it's my blog. I can take as much creative license as I want to!

      What I wore:
      • vintage red peep toe heels with leather ribboned rosette
      • black Limited cuff leg tousers
      • vintage space dye cowl neck batwing sweater

      London Calling

ANOTHER rainy day...Not so bad as yesterday though, as today I'm reminded of my trip to London a few years back. Scott is supposed be headed "over the pond" for business and the plan was for me to go with. Unfortunately, - that excursion is now being tacked on to the tail end of his Italy trip so I wont be accompanying him...Oh well - maybe next time.

If I WAS going this outfit is probably something I'd pack to take with me. I started out with feeling the need to wear this English schoolboy blazer. Originally planned to throw on my brown Ralph Lauren brogues but I wasnt feelin it after I put them on and looked in the mirror. I think the grey plaid heels and belt work better....

      What I wore:

      • Round toe grey plaid wedge heel mary janes
      • Naturally distressed Gap Modern Boot Cut Jeans
      • Vintage 70s grey wool plaid belt
      • Vintage 80s Gucci mini messenger bag
      • Abercrombie white oxford
      • Vintage 70s Alexanders grey wool tweed leather patch boys blazer
      • NY&CO charm bracelet w/ vintage crystal chandelier medallion

      Missin the 80s

I swear - Texas weather is so fickle. We had gorgeous 80 degree weather over the weekend. Sunshine clear skies - beautiful full moon in the evenings. Today its cloudy with scattered showers. Grr - So since I'm missin the 80s (degree weather) I thought I'd console myself by dressin in the 80s (decade)

I'm cold natured so I threw on a pair of leggings to start out with. Pulled out these KILLER boots I've been dying to wear. Didnt think that would be warm enough to I whipped out a pair of jeans and layered on the tiny fit boys tux jacket over the skirt. Yes, you read that right.....my top is actually a skirt.

I have this obsession (i've got quite a few of them) with collecting crazy 80s print full skirts and wearing them in upteen million ways. As a skirt, dress, bubble top, belted bandeau....You get the picture. I mean c'mon....in this economy? A gal's has gotta get creative in makin her wardrobe stretch to its fullest potential! So here, I tucked in the bottom of the skirt into the waistband of the leggings and just fluffed it till it bubbled in a length I liked - VOILA

Moving right along.... I figured since this is "wore & piece" it might be nice to show a few close ups of the "pieces" that make outfit. Yeah - Yeah - I should've thought of that from the beginning but I didnt and now I am so there.

      What I wore:
      • thrifted citizens of humanity "Kelly" jeans
      • vtg 80s grey leggings (not shown-under jeans)
      • vtg 80s biondini leather & snakeskin stiletto boots
      • vtg 80s oscar de la renta boys tuxedo jacket

      Sunday-Sunday-Sunday

I woke up for church this morning & was feelin lazy so I wanted to find something to throw on that needed no pressing and was comfortable (yes - heels ARE comfortable to me). I needed to look "proper" though as later in the afternoon we were going to RoLo's (the inlaws: Ron & Lois) for dinner. My husbands Great Aunt that I had never met and whom he hadn't seen since he was about 4 or 5 flew in so it was a major family deal. Grandparents were coming over, sister flew in from out of state & nephew drove up from out of town to be there....It was a typical BIG Italian family dinner

I had Scott take the picture before we headed out the door. Believe it or not, This was the "accident" shot that turned out the best of the two. I was in the middle of telling him to make sure he got the shoes

      What I wore:

      • Mandys 3/4 sleeve pointelle cardigan with beading
      • Vintage ivory lace camisole
      • Vintage scalloped lace pencil skirt
      • Trio of various length vintage pearl necklaces
      • Martinez Valero satin/rhinestone T strap stilettos

      In the Beginning...

Decided to jump in on the whole blog thing. I wasnt too keen on the other blog I had and I was so inconsistent with it so I just deleted it and decided to start fresh.

I needed to think of something to get myself started that I would stick with regularly. Since I've always had so many folks tell me they like the way I style things together I thought I'd begin my "publishing" by photo journaling.

I've always been a fan of the "tongue in cheek" so Wore and Piece (which I literally JUST came up with while deciding to do this today) won out as the short but sweet catchy name for the blog. Describes the blog to a tee: I post photos of what I "wore" that day and provide a detailed list of the "pieces" that formed the outfit

      so without further "adieu"....
